My experience at this blog was great. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. I didn’t even has to ask for jrb to give his thoughts on how the biggest revelation in the movie clueless made Cher decide to throw a live grenade into her already-questionable family dynamic and we as the viewers are just supposed to roll with the fact that no one had an issue with her marrying her own step-brother. Highly recommend this blog.

my Mission

simple: to make you understand that my first name is “John Ross.”

kidding! that’s why I go by JRB in most cases.

the goal of this blog is to give me the space to share my thoughts on the movies I watch and to create + invite insightful, nuanced conversation about them. Not picking things apart and pointing out their flaws, but rather appreciating the approach and the process and the intent behind a movie.

I also promise to try my best to punctuate properly–a lesser known passion of mine.

professional experience

I started my professional writing career in 2020 as a freelance writer for TheDirect.com. I became an associate editor for their website a year later, and I still do commission work for them regularly.

I am also the cohost of the Lights, Thunder, Action! podcast with award-winning filmmaker Thomas Carter Rochester where we discuss industry news and interview anyone from established actors, film students, and music majors to get more insight on the movie-making magic.

other background

I’m happily married to my bride Alexis, who you’ll read about a lot here. We have a golden retriever named Lady, and as you can see from last year’s Christmas picture, we’re a swiftie household (there wasn’t a vote).

I’m the oldest of five, although my siblings are all taller than me now. I play guitar, and i treat coloring books like homework that’s due at midnight (in a fun way [for me, at least]).

I love Marvel; I’m a regular Marvel SNAP Infinite member and I have a half-done tattoo sleeve of just iron man. Mcu movies are what made me realize how much i love to write about the films I watch, so it’s cool that my passion for Marvel was the first stepping stone in my online writing. You’ll find a lot of marvel talk here, but nothing close to what’s on my Letterboxd profile.

Misc.

I’ve gotten to do some pretty cool things in the last couple of years related to the movies and IP that I love, but I haven’t enjoyed anything more than just being able to write about it. This site is literally just for that.

If you’re still reading this, i think we can agree you’ve got too much time on your hands. I mean, you’re already browsing a personal blog and you came to the “about this blogger” sectioN?

Little creepy, too, not gonna lie.
